Results
The Mainichi has announced the winners of the International Section of the 26th Mainichi Haiku Contest.
Congratulations to First Prize winner Cristian Matei of Romania and all other poets whose entries were selected.

I had secretly hoped that this year we would receive haiku that were a little less focused on war or disease, but it is evident we are not yet free of these themes. However, the haiku were more moving than ever for me, because I felt, for the first time in a long time, that these themes were finally transfigured by a glimmer of hope.

J'espérais secrètement que cette année nous offre des haïkus un peu moins axés sur les guerres ou sur les maladies, mais force est de constater que nous ne sommes pas encore libérés de ces thèmes. Cependant, les haïkus furent plus émouvants que jamais pour moi, parce que j'ai ressenti, pour la première fois depuis longtemps, que ces thèmes étaient enfin transfigurés par la lumière de l'espoir.

そろそろ戦争や病というテーマ以外の応募作が届くかと思ったが、やはりまだ時事句が多かった。しかし今年は同じ時事句でも、暗澹たる思いにとらわれることなく、久々に希望の光が差してきたような趣があり、いつになく深く感銘を受けた。

This haiku likely depicts a daily scene in a bombed area of Ukraine, near Romania, where the author lives. We see that even in the depths of despair — and perhaps even more so in moments like these — people retain a gentleness of soul, a love of beauty, of nature. And it is precisely this that allows them to remain human.

Ce haïku décrit sûrement la vie quotidienne dans les zones bombardées en Ukraine, tout près de la Roumanie où vit l'auteur. On se dit que l'être humain, même au fond du désespoir (ou plus encore dans ces moments peut-être ?) conserve une douceur d'âme, un amour de la beauté, de la nature. Et c'est justement ce qui lui permet de rester un Homme.

作者が住むルーマニアに近い、ウクライナの戦争地域を詠んだ作品であろう。どんな窮地に陥ても人間は風情あるもの、たとえば虫の声を愛でるという優しい心を持ち続けるのだ。だからこそ人間なのだ。感無量の一句である。

Pour un enfant, il existe toujours un moyen extraordinaire de transfigurer la réalité : le rêve ! Pour une petite fille qui danse avec sa poupée, les gouttes de pluie ne sont plus de l'eau froide, elles se transforment en une multitude d'étoiles qui éclairent la princesse qu'elle deviendra un jour...

For a child, there is always a wonderful way to transform reality: through dreams! For a little girl dancing with her doll, the raindrops are no longer cold water; they turn into a multitude of stars that light up the princess she will become one day.

どんな時でも、子供は「夢」という日常のなかの“非常口”をもっている。人形と一緒に踊れば雨つぶは冷たい水ではなくなり、お姫様を照らす無数の星となる。そして自分の希望の星空となる。
